Mt. Ashwabay Trail Conditions 2011-2012

1/19/12  Friday night and Saturday morning, after about 3 inches of new snow up on the hill, the crew regroomed everything.  Skate trails are packed and tracked, the classic trails tracked, except for Pines and Cabin where it is a bit thin was just packed with the ginzu.  Dave said the new snow helped a lot, and the skate trails are looking very good, and the classic trails for the most part are in good condition.

1/24/12 With somewhere like 4-7 inches of new snow last night. Today doc and helper rolled all the classic trails. I packed Jolly Long with the ginzu. Anchor, Seagull, Rollercoaster, and Telford I packed and tracked. The top part of Anchor and Seagull looked to come out real well with full depth tracks most places. The bottom part of Anchor the track was a bit ugly the first 1/2 km, but improved after that. Birch Hill and Jolly Connector I rolled as well. Generally I'd rate the Ashwabay skate good to very good condition. Jolly trails and classic only trails I would rate as fair to good.

1/19/12 Another 2 inches of new snow, yeah! Today Telford, Anchor, Seagull, and Roller Coaster were packed with the ginzu. No tracks were set. For skating these trails would be rated as fair to good. Telford is the bumpiest of the lot.

1/17/12 With about an inch of new snow (maybe a little more on top, a little less on the bottom) I packed (no tracks) with the ginzu on Anchor, Seagull, Roller Coaster, and Telford.  From the reviews of 4H-CANSKI skiers, they thought it was in a bit better conditions than last weekend.  I would rate Anchor, Seagull and Roller Coaster in fair condition for skating, but there are still a couple of thin spots.

1/13/12 From this last storm we got around 4-6 inches of very fluffy new snow, maybe more up top, maybe less down on the Jolly Trails. I think just about everything has been rolled. Then this evening I packed with the ginzu on the following skate trails: Anchor, Seagull, Roller Coaster, Telford, and the warm-up loop. It looks skiable, but there are definitely some thin spots.

1/13/12 With about an inch and a half of new snow, Cam and Dave rolled all the Anchor, Seagull, Roller Coaster, Jolly Connector skate trails, and Oppedahl's, and Sugarbush classic in from the tin shed. I'll probably try to pack with the ginzu after school to try and make Anchor and Seagull somewhat skiable.

1/1/12 Today there was 4-5 inches of new snow up at Ashwabay.  Doc and Dave packed all the trails except Black Bear Cutoff, Oppedahl's Alley, and Birch Hill.  Dave said the best snow seemed to be from the Jolly/Sugarbush junction up Anchor and over to the power lines.  There were people on rock skis out there skiing.  So I would rate it as somewhat ski-able.  Leave skis you care about at home!

12/14/11 Pete let me know that there will be 1/2-3/4 km loop of man-made snow groomed up for skating available Thursday evening 12/15/11, lights will be on until around 6 pm.

12/6/11 Paul L. rolled Anchor and Seagull. He said there was around 3 inches of snow, enough to pack down, but probably not skiable.

12/1/11 Thanks to Tim the new connector trail from Roller Coaster to Sugarbush is ready for use this season. At this time there is about 1 inch of snow on the ground. Hope to see more snow soon.

11/16/11 Thanks to all the volunteer help we've had, the trails are in about as good of shape coming into winter as I've seen. We still have some trail work to finish on the new connector from Roller Coaster to Sugarbush.
